The Shins Concert
Soon after the release of When You Land Here, James Mercer and Martin Sandoval formed the Shins as a change of pace. Now with James Mercer as the Shins' primary songwriter, the group developed a more focused and better structured sound than Flake Music's charming, but less well structured style. The Shins' sound is commonly described as Indie rock, drawing on several musical genres including pop, alternative and folk.

New Album Release on own label

The Shins have announced that their next album release will be on Aural Apothecary (James Mercer's own label). Ian Montone (the Band's manager) said: "That partner could very well remain Sub Pop, who have done a remarkable job with the band and have a great staff of people who really love music, It could be a digital partner with respect to other rights. All of this is being determined. The first goal is to make the record and see where that takes us, and, in addition to the marketing tools we have at our own disposal, team up with a label partner that will assist with additional marketing, radio, and various costs." Pre-Order details will be available on this site soon. Watch this space!!

The Shins, Wincing the night away

Wincing the Night Away, the third album by indie rock group The Shins, was released by Sub Pop Records on January 23, 2007. It is the band's final album under their current contract. Recording for the album occurred in James Mercer?s basement studio, in Phil Ek?s home in Seattle, and in Oregon City with veteran producer Joe Chiccarelli. The title is a play on the name of a Sam Cooke song, "Twistin' the Night Away". It is a reference to band member James Mercer's insomnia. "Sleeping Lessons", the title of the first track, also references insomnia and was considered as a possible album title.
